Yeah thats truly disgraceful....But we all have our stories hell less than a year ago i lost everyting i owned and my car to a natural gas explosion that leveled five houses. My wife my three month old son and i were trapped for hours. Next thing you know the gas company is fixing or replacing every line in our shit hole of a city. i live in york pennsylvaina the city hired a clean up team to come in and clean up the mess before the inspectors could find the cause. now you tell me who's to be held responsable? im sueing them all but that dont mean i'll win. i feel for anyone whos had a hardship and its changed me as a man to know no one realy cares be it federal,state or local government thats the real problem we think were so mutch better than everyone else but we could learn alot from canada!

You and I are peas and carrots.  Which one is more dispicable?  the theif or the neighbor?  In my opiinion they are both dirtbags.  We folks here in Texas has what is kknown as the Castle Doctrine.  Something like that happened here last year and the neighbor shot and killed both perps.  He was sent before a grand jury and the grand jury came back with a No Bill.  We are a different society and what we need is a little warm and cuddly and a little more boot in the ass.  until we start doing that it is not going to change.

Another horrifying example occurred over the holiday. In Covina, California, a man going through a bitter divorce dressed up like Santa and decided to crash a family Christmas party. He shot several people before setting the home on fire and then, after stripping off the Santa costume, went off and shot himself. This is what I have heard on the news. Not sure of all the details. Total of nine people dead in the incident, including children. Not sure how many wounded.

Well said zinger and respect.  I completely agree with both of you, especially on the repeat offender remark.  There is something wrong when people can steal, assault, murder, and still have a chance at freedom again.  I do agree that everyone deserves a fair trial....a fair and just trial....not this....system that has been put in place for attorneys to have job security (Not all attorneys are bad, I have relatives in the justice system).  The unfortunate thing about it is that it's not innocent until proven guilty anymore.  It is more about "how can I make this person look innocent".  I also know that some people can turn their lives around, and those people should be given a second chance....Not people who kill others.  Unfortunately the radio didn't go into much depth and did not have a "support group" set up for this family, but I do hope some people are able to step in and help out.

I would say "Unbelievable!," but, in our culture as it now stands, it really isn't. Disgraceful, yes. Unbelievable, no. It feels sometimes like the sordid elements of our society are working hard every day to outdo each other. Just when you think you've seen the lowest of the low, you turn on the radio or the TV and find out that somebody just sank lower. Apparently, there is no bottom to the depravity of human behavior.

I don't mind saying that I always lock my doors, and, if I lived in Canada, I probably still would lock my doors. I have friends in Ohio who thought they lived in a safe quiet place, out of the way in a wooded lot, until the day their house was broken into and ransacked. Perhaps in Canada their media choose to focus on other things and we just don't hear as much about crime there, or perhaps the crime rate is low enough that people feel more secure. I'd have to research that.

zinger, I, too, grew up around police officers, and anyone who works in law enforcement, who is in it to protect and serve, is my hero. They are all that stands between us and the sordid elements who would steal every last thing civilized folks have, if given the chance unimpeded.

I hope the criminals here get their just desserts and that others near the affected family will be able to step up and help them. That is where we find the true spirit of Christmas.

I have many family members in law enforcement. I was in the Military Police when I was younger. What is more disgraceful is our justice system. Arresting the same people over and over and over and over again. Until this country establishes tougher punishments for repeat offenders, then this type of crime will continue to happen.

The other problem is people don't want to get involved. They just want to live like hermits and keep to themselves. I am fortunate to live in an area where I to don't have to lock my door. And believe it or not, it is in the U.S. No one wants to be accountable for anything. It's a damn shame what happen to this family. You hear of this happening to someone every year. A few years back, I recall a story, in the area where I used to live, where thieves broke into the warehouse space where the Marine "Toys for Tots" prgram toys were being stored, and stole a bunch of them. Sick!

Let's hope someone steps up and helps this family out.
